Eid al-Adha
Eid al-Adha is the great festival marked by the sacrifice — a symbol of Prophet Ibrahim's submission to Allah — and by the Hajj. The Eid prayer is a strongly emphasized sunnah; the sacrifice (qurban) is wajib for those who can afford it according to the Hanafi school, and a strongly emphasized sunnah according to the majority of other schools.
In 2026, Eid al-Adha falls on 2026-05-27. The Hijri equivalent is 10 Zilhicce 1447.
What Does This Eid Remind Us?
The sacrifice is not merely the sharing of meat; it is a living reminder of submission to Allah, of sharing, and of gratitude. That Prophet Ibrahim is mentioned in the Qur'an as one who 'came with a sound heart' carries this very meaning.
A Small Step for Today
- If possible, attend the Eid prayer in congregation.
- If you will offer a sacrifice, do so observing the rules and the rights of the animal.
- Make sure a significant portion of the meat reaches those in need.
- Visit your family, the elderly, and isolated neighbours.
And the camels and cattle We have appointed for you among the symbols of Allah; in them there is good for you. (Surah al-Hajj 22/36)

Spend this Eid in the awareness of submission, sharing, and gratitude; do not end the day without making a neighbour or an orphan smile.
