Beginning of Ramadan
Ramadan is the blessed month in which the revelation of the Holy Qur'an began and the fast was prescribed for the believers. Surah al-Baqarah refers explicitly to the virtue of this month.
In 2026, Beginning of Ramadan falls on 2026-02-19. The Hijri equivalent is 1 Ramazan 1447.
What Does Ramadan Remind Us?
This month is when the servant is trained through the nafs, develops empathy for those in need through hunger and patience, and meets the Qur'an and prayer. Fasting is not merely abstaining from food; it is also the discipline of guarding the tongue, the eye, and one's conduct.
A Small Step for Today
- Renew your intention each day before dawn.
- Bless the moments of suhoor and iftar with a brief prayer.
- Read at least a short passage from the Qur'an every day.
- Do not delay zakat al-fitr, sadaqah, and giving when you have the means.
O you who have believed, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you — that you may attain piety. (Surah al-Baqarah 2/183)
